Sunday Advent services-10am

Each Sunday morning of advent we will be exploring one of four themes (hope, love, joy and peace) each represented by a candle on our advent wreath.

3rd December- Hope

This first week we reflected about what happens to us after we die. We thought about how Jesus has given us the opportunity of a new life, if only we decide to accept it. This act of love that Jesus performed for us is the very basis of Christian hope.

We also listened to a message by Bishop Steven Cottrell as he gave his thoughts on this very subject. You can hear his message to us here: https://youtu.be/GjyyDRkBwYY

10th December- Love

17th December-Joy

24th December- Peace

Advent and Christmas services at St Georges

These are some of the more popular services that will be held at St Georges church this December:

Monday 18th- 5pm Broadford School carol service

The annual Broadford school service is an evening event hosted by Rev. Richard Shorter and St Georges church. The Broadford school children sing carols, tell stories and perform dances for their parents as they help the community to celebrate Christmas. This event is very well attended so arrive in good time to ensure that you get a seat.

Tuesday 19th- 11:30am Sparrows nursery carol service

Following the 10am Eucharist service, the Sparrows nursery service is short celebration delivered by our adjoining nursery school.  Both the children’s parents and the wider church are invited to join this rather unique and fun Christmas celebration.

Wednesday 20th- 7:30pm Night shelter carol service

St Georges is home to the night shelter every Wednesday night. As such, this carol service is the church’s way of helping to share some of the Christmas joy with its night shelter patrons.  Everybody in the community is welcome to come along, sing some carols and have a good time!

Thursday 21st- 7pm 3rd Harold Hill Scouts carol service

The uniform services are always terrific fun, whatever time of year they happen! The scouts carol service is no exception. This is a very well attended event as the scouts, their parents and the wider church all gather to worship with their usual gusto.

Saturday 23rd -6pm Carols and lessons by candlelight

If you were only to attend one Christmas service this year, make it this one. This is a traditional, candlelit event, where our bible readings are interspersed with traditional carols. This is most certainly one of the biggest services that is held at St Georges and is an opportune time for the parish to gather and celebrate the birth of Jesus. There will be mince pies and mulled wine after the service which is almost as big an event in itself.

Sunday 24th Christmas Eve- 11pm

This later Sunday service (the earlier one is at 10am) is what many would call ‘midnight mass’. During this service there will be a Holy Communion as well as well as a Christmas message and carols. There will be no tea or coffee served after this service as it finishes just after midnight.

Monday 25th Christmas day- 10am

A traditional Christmas day family service presented with St Georges usual relaxed atmosphere. This is a relatively short service but it seeks to remind people about the true meaning of Christmas where we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord.
